BC ECE/ITE Competitive Wage Scale

*Note, not all school districts have posted rates for their Strong Start Facilitators / ECE.  This may because the school district contracts out to a NFP to provide the Strong Start program, or the current contracts were amended to include Strong Start, and the amendment was not publicly updated.  We expect that the new contracts, once bargained, will be more comprehensive; providers should select the school district closest to them. All Cat 4 / 5 wages are available online.

Notes to the wage grid:

 

*some contacts do not list new rates for May 2019; these districts have their 2018 rates listed in this chart

*When the unions and school districts complete their collective bargaining process, updated 5 year wage scales can be provided by BCCCOA.  

*All wages listed are the entry level wages

*Some districts pay the Strong Start Facilitator a higher wage than the school teachers.  When this occurred, the ECE wage was applied to Cat 4 / 5. These circumstances are shown in italics.

*Employment Insurance calculates Teacher Wages (cat 4 and 5) as a 9.75 hour day.  There are 40 work weeks for teachers. Hourly wage was therefore calculated by: Annual salary / 1950 hours = Hourly wage.  Teacher hours obviously include admin and prep time and child care operators should include some admin and prep time outside of ratio as a part of an ECE teaching position.

* ECEA wages have not been calculated as a part of this grid, as there is no school district comparable.  Accordingly, ECEA should be set by the provider at a LOWER wage than ECE.

*ITE wages have not been calculated as a part of this grid, as there is currently no school district comparable.  Accordingly, providers interested in collective bargaining will need to consider how to compensate for the additional training required for ITE.
